In the last few days, Ive reread The Dark Knight Strikes Again, Batman Year One and Scott McCloud, and read three Sin City books: The Big Fat Kill, A Dame to Kill for, and the initial sequence starring Marv. Reading Moore’s From Hell now.
Update: The rest of Sin City, V for Vendetta, Mr. Punch, Y, The Last Man, A Contract with God, Maus. Muhaha.
From Hell is a great comic book, and unlike the Da Vinci code, recognizes and accepts that it is only a work of fiction and not pseudo-truth culled and copied from historical books that could never make millions as bestsellers. My copy of year one is ruined, but how did you think it was compared to Batman begins. I liked the Year One imagery in Begins of the flying bats against the sky, but other than that I didn’t notice anything from the comic.
You’re gonna love The Yellow Bastard. I love how Miller uses full frontal nudity as if its shown in comics daily, instead of the oft used flourishing sweeps or speech bubbles to hide the nudity or the now you see it now its gone style seen in most comics.
Hey Samit
I just recently finished Simoquin Prophecies, and I loved it! It was an exceptional read, and I reviewed in on my blog, http://www.bhavya.blogspot.com straight off, only to find out you have a blog of your own.
It was a quizzer’s delight, with the number of in-jokes in it.
Looking forward to the sequel.
Before Samit points it out, let me do the honours: it’s SIMOQIN. Without a U.
Sorry, habit of typing the U after the Q…
Hey Samit, I’d also like to say that The Simoqin Prophecies is really a good blend of realism and fantasy.
P.S – Hah! I got the spelling right short-stuff.
help required!
hw did u manage to get ur blog back aftr it disappeared? frnd of mine has d same prob – therefore need detailed instructions.
plz plz pretty plz?
alan moore is great. unparalleled.
Yes, he is great. But unparalleled – no. I think writers like Morrison and Vaughan are almost as good, and if Vaughan goes at the rate he is now, he should surpass Moore by the end of his career.
You are in Delhi, right? Where do you find all these, if I may ask?
A published author? How did u manage to do it? Any tips or contacts to offer?
Have you tried the Lucifer series? I thought it was very very good.. the art is not that great, true, but the story is pretty impressive.
hey I picked up LXG volume 1, just hope it won’t be too much trouble getting the second one.
Good to see u reading the stuff which for general public is kid’s stuff. I’m a great fan of Allan Moore, infact bought my copy of From Hell from a shop in Gurgaon (could be Old & New). Was pleasently surprised to see that book in Gurgaon! Though that was the only graphic novel to be found in the shop (remember big guys don’t read comics!).
Haven’t read all the Sin City novels, never got all of them here. I liked the treatment of Dark Knight Returns, but didn’t quite like the Dark Knight Strikes Again; the characters seemed so half developed. I liked Allan Moore’s A League of Extraordinary Gentlemen; now eagerly waiting for his Dark Dossier.
