like that Outlook headline long ago. Last day in Cal today, end of what was supposed to be a week-long holiday. but ended up having no time at all, and todays workload is quite impressive as well. am trying to do four jobs at once, so the shit has hit the ceiling bigtime… massively missing my life of two months ago, where all i did was essentially laze around and pontificate, and write my column once a week. Did some stuff in Cal that was fun, though…finally met the glamorous BridalBeer, ate lots of Shiraz biryani, carried on my Scrabble winning streak, and bought many books. Cal bookstores are really far, far ahead of stores anywhere else…I just walked into Landmark and found the entire Sandman collection, just sitting there. This after spending so many months raiding three/four different Delhi bookstores in search of the elusive Preludes and Nocturnes.
Have also started reading lots of David Gemmell-like action fantasy writers, in the hope of getting all charged up for the war scenes in book 3
and havent had a minute to blog, up to now. partly because of reduced net access, but mostly because i havent had the freaking TIME.
what a blessing it is that all the work i do is stuff i really love doing, though.
back in Delhi saturday.
what’s your favourite Gemmell novel?
druss the legend. swashbuckle factor so high that the plotlessness fades away
I regret to announce the end of an era. For 20-odd years I have staunchly held that Shiraz produces the best biryani in Cal and perhaps in the world.
On the basis of recent form, however, I must admit that Qutb Miyan of the Bengal Club has them beaten to a souffle.

Actually, Landmark is the place far, far ahead of other bookstores in the country. Both the Landmark outlets in Chennai had the Sandman books in stock since 2002, and Landmark Bangalore has a bucketload of graphic novels, the standard superhero TPBs, as well as nice, hard-to-find stuff like Y The Last Man and Fables. I saw Lapham’s Stray Bullets, Samura’s Blade of the Immortal and Hellboy.
